MERCH ARTWORK/GRAPHIC CONTEST

Here's your chance to design some merch and earn cash $$$ from all the sales!
Contestants must create an original artwork / graphic design that is suitable for printing on merchandise (Apparel, Homeware, Accessories and/or Drinkware). The theme of the artwork / graphic should be 'Hive Workshop Community'.

The winner of the contest will have his/her artwork printed on Hive merchandise and sold in our HiveMerchshop during a 3 month period.
All earnings from items sold during this limited time will go to the winner and will be transferred to his/her bank account on a monthly basis until the end of the 3 month period. After this time, the artwork will taken down from our store and no further sales with the winning entry will be possible, unless the winner agrees to have all future earnings go the maintenance of the Hive Workshop.
The Hive Workshop Administration team will start a private dialogue with the winner to determine the specific pricing for each item.

Remember that's it's not guaranteed that people will buy your merch. So make your entry unique, desirable and relevant to the Hive community to increase the chances of a sale.

We are very excited to introduce Honeycombs!
Honeycombs are the latest in the Hive Workshop's ever-expanding list of features, bringing with them a fully revamped download system, a new dimension to our vast resource sections, unlockable site themes & more!

What are Honeycombs?

Honeycombs are the site-wide currency of the Hive Workshop. Members will be able to spend their accumulated Honeycombs on downloading maps and resources and unlocking cosmetic elements such as new site themes and exclusive merchandise. Each member's Honeycomb count or "Honeycount" will be visible under their avatar, right next to the XP bar:

How are Honeycombs acquired?

Honeycombs are automatically generated much like Experience. You can earn Honeycombs by:

Starting a thread
Replying to a thread
Submitting a resource
Receiving a positive reaction
Receiving a Honeycomb award from a contest

As an additional perk, Hive Heroes will receive a 10% bonus to Honeycomb generation!

In addition, Honeycombs can be purchased in the Merch Shop in three Honeybundles*

What is the revamped download system?

The new resource download system is an exciting way to discover resources and diversify your asset collection! Starting tomorrow, members will be able to download maps, models, skins, icons, and sounds in exchange for a set number of Honeycombs! The pricing is based on the type of asset downloaded:

Icon - 3 Honeycombs
Skin - 10 Honeycombs
Model - 20 Honeycombs
Map - 100 Honeycombs
Campaign - 250 Honeycombs

Maps and assets awarded the Director's Cut rating will cost a flat 25% Honeycombs extra.

Can I still download assets the way I used to?

If you are running low on Honeycombs and can't afford a particular asset you'll be able to use our new and exciting Free Download feature, which will grant you a resource pack full of random assets of the type you were looking for. These packs can contain anything! With a bit of luck, you could even get the asset you were after in the first place. And if not - then your collection is that much more interesting. Say goodbye to using the same old assets over and over again in your maps!

The resource packs quantities vary according to the type of asset as follows:

Icon Resource Pack - 10 random icons
Skin Resource Pack - 5 random skins
Model Resource Pack - 3 random models
Map Pack - 2 random maps or campaigns

We'll be rolling the update out over the next week. To celebrate, we'll be giving each of our members 10 FREE Honeycombs as well as the ability to purchase our first-ever HONEYCOMB EXCLUSIVE SITE THEME (available for the price of 1000 Honeycombs)!

Inspired by the Warcraft 3 Heroes, the Hero account upgrade is a monthly subscription/patron membership for registered members of the Hive Workshop. We call it 'Hero' because you will help keep the Hive alive ♥

You can choose to support the site by giving 5, 10 or 25 USD per month. Depending on the amount you will get access to exclusive perks only available to the Heroes of the Hive Workshop.

Becoming a Hero unlocks special perks and awesome swag for your profile. So, if you see a Hero while browsing the site, remember that he or she is helping keeping the site up - for you and for me.

A message from Ralle:

"I started this site when I was 14. I didn't have a job and had all the time in the world. I spent it making my Warhammer 40,000 TD map and later learned to code and built a website for it, War Hive, as it used to be called.
I am now 32 and I have a house, a wife and two kids. I only have a fraction of the time I had back then and it’s harder for me to justify spending time on it because it’s making close to no money. I don’t personally need it to make money because I would work on it for free any day and I take great pleasure and pride in doing just that. But to give Hive the amount of time it deserves, it also has to make some sense economically.
I could junk up the site with more ads or put important features behind a paywall and make a few extra bucks that way. But I hate ads and I wouldn't want to corrupt the experience of visiting the site. I don’t even feel good about having the ads we already have (Yes we have ads). But if I remove them, I will be paying all bills uncut myself.
I am here to ask for your help. Help me pay for the site and the time I put into it. Help me justify putting lots more time into it.
During the run of this site, I have interacted with long time members who picked their career based on the interests they formed during their stay on this site. They are software developers, graphic designers, 3D modellers and game designers today. If you are one of them, think about how it has changed your life.
When we reach $300 per month, I will arrange for a full day every month to work exclusively on Hive. When we reach beyond that I will have to seriously reconsider my the amount of time I spend on my day job.
